Acne

April14
Who says you have to live with it? You have a choice.
Acne is a common skin condition, caused by changes in skin structure consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland, by means of  androgen stimulation. It is characterized by non-inflammatory follicular papules and by inflammatory papules, pustules, and nodules in its more severe forms. Acne vulgaris affects the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in non-inflammatory forms. Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, blemishes, spots, zits, or simply acne.
Acne occurs most commonly during adolescence, affecting a great number of teenagers, and often continues into adulthood. For most people, acne lessens over time and tends to disappear—or at the very least decrease—after one reaches one’s early twenties. However it is impossible to say  how long it will take to disappear completely. There are some who will carry this condition well into their thirties, forties and beyond.
Many people experience frequent acne. Some times the skin reacts to synthetic detergents present in commercial soaps. Natural soaps are an excellent alternative to soaps that are made using chemicals and lab made fragrances. Natural soap in most cases will not react with the skin.
If you have oily skin you will want to use with a cleanser that contains an antibacterial ingredient. Acne and blemishes will break-out if there is excess oil in the skin.  Facial skin problems can be avoided by washing your face with an antibacterial soap or cleanser at least twice a day, and eating foods containing antioxidants. Our Aloevera bar too is excellent for oily skin.
If  sensitivity to fragrances is causing  you to suffer from asthma, it is important to use a natural, fragrance free soap. Most of the soaps available these days include heavy perfumes and chemicals in them. They  cause many different kinds of unfavorable reactions.

Eczema and natural soap

April14
Eczema is a term for several different types of skin ailments.  Often identified by  red, swollen and itchy skin. Causes for eczema include other diseases, irritating substances, allergies and your genetic make-up. Eczema is not contagious.
eczema  is an allergic condition that makes your skin dry and itchy. You can prevent some types of eczema by avoiding irritants, stress and the things you are allergic to.
Most commercial soaps available today contain harsh ingredients. The chemical additives  in them can lead to rashes, allergic reactions, and to eczema in some cases. They also rob our skin of its natural oils, making it dry and prone to  irritation.
With pure natural soap, you will enrich your skin, keep it soft, smooth and  you also seal in its natural moisture to prevent dryness and irritation. This is because we do not use any harmful chemical additives in our soaps.
Strong perfume is also an irritant to sensitive skin. We offer unscented bars enriched with cold cream  for this very reason. Petals and Herbs provides  you  a natural solution for healthy glowing skin.
Try switching from shampoo to natural soaps to prevent an itchy scalp.  Petals and Herbs cleanses your hair but does not strip your scalp of its natural oils.
Soap for sensitive skin
People with sensitive skin should be careful about using soap as a cleanser, since most soaps are created to remove excess oil (some of this oil is necessary for the face) from the skin. Some soap contains ingredients which may be allergic to a person with sensitive skin. Petals and Herbs makes soaps that are safe for people with sensitive skin. For this purpose, we also make natural cleansing  and moisturizing soaps that contain  no additives such as perfume or herbs  to  prevent allergic reactions.
Thereputic herbs and plants, such as chamomile and lavender are normally safe on sensitive skin. Although these  are suitable for most skin types, it is possible to have adverse reactions to these herbs as well.

Going Natural

July2

Thinking about pure natural hand made soap?

In the recent years, a lot of us are thinking  of the benefits of going natural. We are aware of the harmful effects of harsh chemicals that are cheap substitutes for natural ingredients  to our health and well being.

Natural?

Soap is one of the most common  products which one uses daily.

So why not switch to Natural Hand made soaps that are true bath soaps: They  are made with food grade oils and mild botanical scrubs to  nourish and nurture the skin, Every time you wash with natural soaps, you give a beauty treatment to the skin with mild exfoliation. All of the  perfumes we use  are individual or blended  natural essential oils. Petals and Herbs Natural bath soaps are made of natural ingredients which are not harsh and have a purely nourishing effect on  skin. These ingredients pamper the skin by moisturizing naturally, fighting dryness and dehydration and combating signs of aging.

At Petals and Herbs natural hand made bath soaps, we control the ingredients that we put into our soaps. We do not add any unnecessary ingredients just to enhance the look of our product. What you get is pure goodness in your bath bar. You can also choose the scent which best pleases you. Each variety contains a therapeutic ingredient in  the essential oils we use. Pure and natural soap is best for those with sensitive skin and those who simply want to give their skin the best. Mixing herbal essences and essential oils for aromatic soap therapy has been proven to have benefits  against stress, insomnia and pain. The natural ingredients invigorate, soothe, calm and heal the skin.

And a few of us who are allergic to perfume can opt for the fragrance free bar. We have those too.

Adding  ingredients such as tea tree oil or neem in natural soap gives it a natural anti-bacterial or anti-fungal property to and helps in the prevention  acne and irritation in eczema .

We make our soaps by the cold process. By this method, the soap is not cooked and all the natural benefits in the ingredients are preserved in the soap. Natural soaps are benefitial to diabetics as they are less likely to cause reactions and thus protect the skin from rashes and soars caused by harsh ingredients present in commercial brands.

How do we make our luxury soaps?

April14
Petals and Herbs, luxury handmade bath soaps are made by the cold process method.  We start with a solution of sodium hydroxide (lye) and water.  The solution is mixed with our base of olive oil for its rich moisturizing properties and  coconut oil for its natural lather producing qualities.

The oils and lye combine to form soap and this is known as saponification.  Molecules are rearranged during saponification, and the end result is a five parts soap and one part glycerin.  Glycerin has wonderful hydrating properties and prevents your skin from drying  and becoming scaly. So our bath soap is a moisturizing cleanser.
Essential oils, botanicals, herbs, spices, and additional emollients are added.  Some soaps have natural  colorants as well.  We minimize on color and mostly use natural coloring such as flower petals, cocoa, coffee, cochineal and extracts of fruits  and herbs.
The essential oils we use, contain natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, antiseptic, and antiviral properties.
We do not use any synthesized chemicals like alcohol and sulphates or preservatives.
We do not use SLS in our bath soaps. SLS, a not so skin friendly chemical is used in commercially manufactured soaps and detergents to produce lather .  The gentle creamy lather you get from Petals & Herbs Natural Bath Soap is from the coconut oil we use in our soaps.
Our soaps are set to cure for 6 weeks. Then they are trimmed and packed.
Treat your skin with our  handmade, moisturizing and delicious smelling soap with real flower petals. Olive Oil is full of antioxidants and vitamins A , D and E which  helps keep your skin youthful and refreshed!

Jasmin

April6

Essential oil from the Jasmine flowers is either extracted by the labour-intensive method of enfleurage or through chemical extraction. It is expensive due to the large number of flowers needed to produce a small amount of oil. The flowers have to be gathered at night because the odour of jasmine is more powerful after dark. The flowers are laid out on cotton cloths soaked in olive oil for several days and then extracted leaving the true jasmine essence.
Jasmine plants are bitter to taste, astringent and slightly cooling. Jasmin contains salicylic acid, linalool, and other alkaloids. These substances gives the jasmine many uses as a herbal remedy: a relaxant for nerves, an astringent, a sedative, an aphrodisiac, and as an analgesic. Jasmine essential oil works as an antiseptic, an antidepressant, an antispasmodic, and more in Ayurvedic Medicine. In Ayurveda, the flowers and the essential oil are used from the jasmine plant. The jasmine flower is a symbol of compassion and love. Hence, it is often used as an aphrodisiac for women. The jasmine is also helps build up immunity, and to reduce fevers.
